I have a PhD in Elementary Education and an MLIS from the University of Alberta. My dissertation work focused on children's experiences with public library summer reading programs. This research is important because it investigated the intersection of schools, public libraries, and children’s home reading lives.
I am an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta. I also teach at the University of Alberta's School of Library and Information Studies, as well as for the University of British Columbia and San Jose State University. My teaching areas include school libraries, public library services for youth, children's literature, resources for children and young adults, educational technology, Web 2.0, reading, and collection management.
